The world's first Baileys Irish Cream was created on November 26, 1974 near Dublin. And he appeared thanks to hard work and chance. Back in 1970, several talented romantics from Gilbey's Wine and Spirits, together with their manager David Dand, decided to create a new and unusual alcoholic beverage. It should not be very strong, tasty and certainly natural.
Irish-born David Dand logically turned to those products that are loved in his homeland - Irish cream and Irish whiskey. David himself already had experience in creating and promoting alcoholic beverages, and the company had, albeit small, but its own production facilities.
Together with his colleagues, Dand began to experiment on the empty premises of his plant on Naas Road. At first, enthusiasts simply mixed the two ingredients using a regular mixer. It turned out delicious, but the resulting liquid was not constant. And the cream was curdling quickly. The search for the right technology took four years. It already seemed that this problem was simply not destined to be solved. Unexpectedly, an idea came to David, after refinement, the right process was found. He was immediately patented.
So the testers were able to protect the unique combination of whiskey and cream. To make the taste truly magical, they also added chocolate, caramel, vanilla and sugar. David Dand registered the R @ A Bailey @ Co company, which introduced the new Irish liqueur to the whole world. The name of the drink also appeared by chance. They say that this was the name of the bar, where the employees of the company liked to go. And the very word "Bailey" was successfully associated with Ireland, it was simple and easy to remember.
The presentation took place in Dublin, at Taylors Hall. Although the audience was large, the Irish, accustomed to strong drinks, had a rather cool welcome to the new drink with a creamy taste. But this did not stop Dand, and he began to promote his product in Irish pubs and shops. I didn't like the drink right away, in the first year 72 thousand bottles of the drink were sold. Only in 1978, the presentations and tastings gave a result - the sales curve actively went up.
The method of creating the liquor is not only patented, but also kept in the strictest confidence. But thanks to the uniqueness of the recipe, the use of the latest equipment and strict quality control, that very excellent result is born. And in 2005, the Baileys family was replenished with two new members - a liqueur with a mint-chocolate flavor and a creamy-caramel flavor appeared.
